*HARRY KRONHEIMER-Business Manager. Born in Philadelphia, Penn., November 5, 1842. Educated in the common schools. Apprenticed to the trade of gasfitting, then followed mercantile business, locating in Washington, D. C. Founder of Webster Lodge No.7, August 28, 1866. Was a delegate to the Con- vention at Philadelphia, Penn., May 15, 1868, "to devise a plan to form the Su- preme Lodge of the United States." He was then Grand Guide of the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia. At the first Convention of the Supreme Lodge, April 11, 1868, he was elected Supreme Inner Steward, and gave material assistance to Supreme Chancellor Read. Supreme Representative during 1873 and 1874.

Initiated as a Charter member of Decatur Lodge No.9, Washington, December 23, 1867, admitted to the Grand Lodge of the District, April 28, 1868 and created a Past Supreme Chancellor by the Supreme Lodge (S. L. Jour., 1873, 770).

**FRED D. STUART-Topographical Engineer. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, January 12, 1814. Initiated in Hermoine Lodge No.2, Washington, D. C. In 1873, he was appointed to prepare the "Book of Diagrams," descriptive and illustrative of the work in the Ranks. This he did most acceptably, and it remained in use until the change in the Ritual in 1892, and with it the re- arrangement of the \vork. Brother Stuart was an exceptionally gifted man, had long training in the work of fraternal societies and was kind, sympathetic, and genial The author of this work knew him well. He died at his home in Washington, January 25, 1878.
**JOHN W. BRADBURY.:-Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1833. There he learned the trade of brass finishing. In 1855, he removed to Washington, D. C., and was employed in the Navy Yard. In 1861, he enlisted in Company A, 7th Battalion, District of Columbia Volunteers, and at the end of his term, he re- turned to the Navy Yard, where he has since been employed as a skilled work- man. He joined the Order at the institution of Syracusians Lodge No.10, of Washington, February 2, 1868. He was a delegate to the Convention for the organization of the Supreme Lodge.

JOSEPH THEOPHILUS KIRK PLANT-1st Grand Chancellor, 1864--1865. Born in Washington, District of Columbia, May 11, 1831.. He was a member of both the Baltimore and Washington bar, and for many years was Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, and Commissioner of Deeds. He was initiated at the institution of Washington Lodge, No.1, D. C., Feb. 19, 1864, and was made a Past Supreme Chancellor by the Supreme Lodge, March 9, 1869. At the time of his death, at Washington, D. C., March 7, 1881, he was a member of Franklin Lodge No.2, of that city.
M. H. VanDerveer was the Grand Scribe of this, the first Grand Lodge.

CLARENCE M. BARTON-2nd Grand Chancellor, 1865--1866. Born in Mount Holly, N. J., November 3, 1839. Was a member of Franklin Lodge No.2, D. C. Became the Grand Recording and Corresponding Scribe of the District of Colum- bia., and the Provisional Supreme Lodge and of the Supreme Lodge. In 1873, owing to defalcation, his resignation was accepted. Then he left the Order floated out to Oregon, where he became clerk of the State Senate and died there. JOSEPH H. EDWARD DUNN-4th Grand Chancellor, 1866-1867. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 9, 1836. Moved to Washington, D. C. Became a mem- ber, April 22, 1864, at the institution of Franklin Lodge No, 2, in which he has held continuous membership. On March 9, 1869, the Supreme Lodge created him a Past Supreme Chancellor, for his eminent and efficient services in the early days. Brother Dunn received his early education in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted, November 23, 1850, to learn music. Was pro- moted to Corporal, February 15, 1855-Sergeant, June 1, 1855-First Sergeant, November 12, 1857, and to Sergeant Major, December 1, 1863. He was retired, May 15, 1886, receiving four years additional service, by Act of Congress, Brother Dunn is still. in the Government employ. During the entire period of this exceptionally long service, his name stands without a single black mark against it, either as to conduct or performance of duty. Especially during the early period, when efforts were being made to extend the Order into the adjacent States, Brother Dunn gave most liberally of his time, labor and money, and while the records may not tell very fully as to this, yet the author knows that to Brother Dunn, more than to any other one man, was due the success of almost all these early projects and expeditions. JOHN HAMILTON KING-6th Grand Chancellor, 1868--1869. Notary public. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, January 24, 1839. Enlisted as Music Boy in the U. S". Marine Corps, in 1847-discharged in June, 1848. Early life spent at sea on U. S. men of war. Joined the Volunteer Navy in 1863. Honorably dis- -charged, July 31, 1867. Then employed in-the Washington Navy Yard until Sep- tember 5, 1893. Initiated in Franklin Lodge No.2, of Washington, May 6, 1864. L,ater, he withdrew, and organized Alexandria Lodge No.1, of Alexandria, Vir- ginia, February 1, 1865, but, upon the surrender of the latter, he rejoined Frank- lin Lodge No.2. From this he withdrew, and, on January 23,-1869, he depos- ited his Card in Liberty Lodge No.6.. of Washington. After the troubles arising out of the "0. B. N." controversy, he left the order. JOHN WESLEY THOMPSON-7th Grand Chancellor, 1869-1870. Born in Washington, D. a., May 4, 1827. Learned the trade of plasterer. In 1850, he entered the Naval Laboratory at Washington, and studied pyrotechnics. In 1856, he was placed in charge of that department, where he remained continuously. In 1863, he lost his left arm by an explosion at the Navy Yard. He was initi- ated in Calanthe Lodge No.11, Washington, D. C., March 8, 1868, and has since continued an active member of the Order. In 1876, he was elected Supreme Outer Guard, and continuously re-elected. All over the Supreme Domain, he is familiarly known as "Uncle John." RICHARD GOODHART, of No.7, Washington;- V. In January, 1866, he went to Washington, and entered one of the govern- ment departments. Was initiated in Webster Lodge No.7, of Washington, May 9, 1867. Died November 26, 1903. Died, in Washington, D. a., November 22, 1899, after being an employee of the U.. S. Government for 26 years. At the time of his death, he was chief clerk in a Division of the Commissary Department of the U. S. Government, and recognized as a most efficient officer. At an early age, he removed to Boston, and after- wards to Weymouth, Mass., where he resided until the Civil War, then enlisting in the 35th Massachusetts Infantry. Went to Washington in 1865, entering the government service. Became a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge No.5, May 26. 1866. At the organization of the Grand Tribunal, he became its Chief Tribune. In 1863, enlisted in Company A, 49th Pennsylvania Volunteers, participating in many important engagements. Cap- tured at the battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, and confined in Andersonville, and. other Southern prisons, for ten months. Paroled at Vicksburg, Miss., April 21, 1865, and honorably discharged at Harrisburg, Penn., May 27, 1865. On September 29, 1866, he enlisted in the Regular Army, .and was; assigned as Corporal in Company K, 12th U.- S. Infantry, serving until September 29, 1869, when he was appointed clerk in the Treasury Department. He became a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge No.5, of Washington, D. C., December 21, 1870, and has always been one of its most active and ardent members. Supreme Representative, 1896--1900. In his work in the Order, he has been a wise counsellor, and has always been recognized as one of its best and most conserva- , tive exponents.
